Seedling is an audio installation that has grown since its first outing in 2021, its European premiere in Budapest as part of CSET Fest in May 2023 & now for a new project in 2024!

We are excited to be returning in 2024 with the original audio piece, Seedling, by Helen Crevel alongside a new audio piece, Cub, for children and young people under 12 co-created with Years 3 and 4 at Cottesmore Academy, Rutland. The two audio pieces will be shared in pop-up installations in Northampton (5 14 April 2024) and Corby ( 24 May - 2 June 2024) alongside textile creations made by local people in the weeks leading into the installations inspired by the family’s heritage.

If you would like to be part of our textile making sessions, find out more here.

Seedling (original 2021 audio piece) was created artist Helen Crevel focused on potential motherhood, environmental responsibility and consumerism.  It seeks to provoke conversation around motherhood and the environment, connecting them to our geographical and cultural heritage, and family legacies. The installation is housed in a specially designed space – its dome-like shape covered in textiles and fabrics, while the inside will be more like a domestic space, like stepping into someone’s home.

The piece was inspired by conversations with pairs of mothers and daughters about the decision to have children or not, all within the context of the environmental crisis and the potential to re-imagine a brighter future.

Seedling is supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England.
