Hi, I'm Courtenay

I am a Creative Producer working on arts, community and heritage projects both locally, in the East Midlands, and nationally. I founded Carbon Theatre in 2018 to produce new work centred around equality, feminism and accessibility.

I trained at Mountview, graduating with an MA Creative Producing in 2017, and completed placements with Royal & Derngate and Fuel. I have also worked as General Manager for Finborough Theatre.

Consultations

If you are in need of some quick or more focussed advice, why not book a consultation session? Consultations are currently available via Zoom (or other virtual meeting room software) due to COVID-19 restrictions and safety.

Before any consultation, I will send a short form to you outlining what your focus for the consultation will be so I can prepare accordingly and we can agree on how long we think we need together.

Helping hand

Do you just need a helping hand? Someone to do a few hours here and there? Maybe you are writing a funding application or working on a tour pack, if you need an outside eye or someone to help redraft - get in touch!

This is designed to be an affordable option for artists and companies struggling to meet deadlines or tearing their hair out over an application. We can set a budget and work to a deadline - whatever you need.

I’m thrilled to be joining the Big House: Produce programme, run by In Good Company and Derby Theatre, with other local independent arts producers Hannah Stone, Rafia Hussain, Phoebe Wall-Palmer. We have been selected via a procurement process and will act as consultant producers and tour bookers for local theatre companies to help them get their plans back on track post COVID-19.

What is Big House: Produce?

The Big House: Produce is a brand-new free support programme offering theatre makers in Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire the opportunity to work with a producer.

The world has changed dramatically in the last seven months. The entire industry feels like it’s ground to a halt. Theatres have been closed; entire years of work cancelled in a matter of hours. This catastrophic rupture in our lives has impacted the independent sector more than most and has left many people’s plans in tatters.

This scheme is designed to help theatre makers and companies get their projects back on track post COVID by offering 12 hours support from a local producer.

Who is eligible?

Theatre makers and companies based in the Nottinghamshire or Derbyshire area and who have seen a change in plans due to the coronavirus pandemic and subsequent lockdown resulting in new shows or projects being delayed or changed.

Priority will be given to new or existing Big House clients who have received under 12 hours of support so far.

How do we access it?

Sign up as client of The Big House. Being a client of The Big House programme allows you to learn new skills through regular workshops, get one-to-one mentoring and get a clearer picture of where to go next with your career or business idea.

Once you’re signed up, or if you are an existing client, you will then attend a scoping meeting with In Good Company’s Creative Producer Ben. Based on your needs, they will put together a bespoke package of online workshops and one-to-one mentoring, including potentially pairing you with one of the consultants on our Big House: Produce programme to help get you on the right track, and ready to make your next step.

As a producer, I work in two ways:

Working with companies to develop their practice and projects.

Creating fresh projects from scratch with new creative teams.
