RIPE

AM THREE MINUTES LATER SQAURE.jpg

In Spring 2022, we started to redevelop RIPE by Leanne Davis (work-in-progress) which is a romantic-comedy bounced into action by Laura's unexpected pregnancy. Laura and James are two friends who have known each other since university. Now in their mid-30s, their friendship is faced with a giant ‘curve’ ball. This hilarious and touching new romcom explores how parenthood turns your world upside down - in more ways than one!

We are now looking for venues and partners to get Ripe into production for 2024! Please get in touch if you’d be interested in support the work.

About the play:

“I wanted to write a piece that explored the difficulties of being a woman and how even before becoming pregnant, a woman has to start thinking about when or if they become a mother. And there is a lot of fear and confusion and guilt and shame that goes with that. And I wanted to write a piece that encapsulated all those emotions.” - Writer, Leanne Davis.

This project was supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England and funding from The Compton Fund, Northamptonshire Community Foundation. With thanks to our partners, Nottingham Playhouse and The Core at Corby Cube for hosting us.

During the development of RIPE, we worked with new parents - sharing a full reading of the play (with a baby-friendly set-up) and talking about the messy and life-altering experience of becoming a parent, and particularly experiencing pregnancy and birthing tiny humans.

We worked with local illustrator Angela Mayers to create this short series of illustrations highlighting some of the experiences we shared.
