Sea Girl

Sea Girl is an online adventure story about sailing around the world. Help Ellen, Naomi and Tarzoon, the cat, decide whether to meet turtles, explore the Caribbean or follow dolphins.

This interactive, multi-sensory experience is inspired by the extraordinary achievements of Laura Dekker, the youngest person to have solo travelled across the world in a sailing boat. She was just 14 when she set off and 16 when she completed her trip. We wanted to create a piece of theatre that celebrated this magnificent adventure, and show how the determination of one girl changed the world!

This performance is accessible to disabled children and those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. The nature of the story means we are able to communicate parts of the story through sights, smells, sounds and textures - perfect for children who best experience and learn through different senses. The interactive experience comes with sensory activities for all the family to enjoy together.

The project is supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England, National Lottery Community Fund, Margaret Giffen Community Fund (Northamptonshire Community Foundation), MGCfutures, Stage One and Attenborough Arts Centre.

Earlier development of the work was supported by artsdepot, Warts and All, Attenborough Arts Centre and Derby Theatre.
